So it’s been a week since I got back from NYC which is amicability named the city that never sleeps because it literally doesn’t!
I had THE most amazing 10 days it is an absolutely incredible city and no words can describe some of the views I was lucky enough to witness whilst there.
I’ve grown up seeing New York in films and tv shows (I’m a big fan of American shows- friends in particular is set in NYC!) and to actually be there seeing the sights you hear so much about was just epic.
I am having major NYC blues so I thought I’d put together a little post about what I did whilst I was there!
I won’t bore you with the ins and outs but I thought it would be fun (maybe just for me) to tell you lovely bunch a few of the main stand out things I did and saw on my trip.
And lots of it! The obvious one I know but we literally spent a good 4/5 days on shopping and we spent soo much money oops! Macy’s and Bloomingdales are like malls in themselves and we spent a lot of time in Macy’s! The shops in NY are just something else they’re so huge and there’s so many of them everywhere! A shoppers paradise! It was amazing visiting shops we won’t have in the UK such as Sephora and Target (queue a huge hall post very very soon!)
We were lucky enough to get tickets to the opening games of the Brooklyn Nets Vs Chicago Bulls held at the Barclays centre in Brooklyn and also to the New York Knicks Vs Atlanta Hawks. Neither of the NY teams won but the atmosphere was immense and the entertainment during the breaks is amazing! So many brilliant dancers and oblivious cam (which I’m so glad wasn’t shot on me) where they see how long an audience member takes to realised they’re on camera and they had tshirt guns shooting free tshirts into the crowd! We also got a free tshirt from the Knicks game (in size XL so I’ll just wear it in bed!).
Top of the Empire State Building and top of Rockefeller centre
Both absolutely incredible views that pictures just don’t do justice you really have to see it for yourself. Top of the Rock is a better view as you can actually see the Empire State on one side and central park on the other which is a site in itself as there’s just a massive rectangle of greenery and trees hidden amongst vast buildings it really is a sight to behold. When the sun sets you can see the orange sky as it fades away and all the city lights begin to turn on its a view like no other.
We had lots of incredible food from the Hard Rock Cafe to the cute little family run Italian restaraunts to Dennys diner and the place voted #1 pizza place in the whole of the USA!
We visited some secret speakeasy style bars in soho which were super cool and they don’t have a menu to just tell them what you like and they whip you up a concoction and if you don’t like it you can send it back!
We had some lovely weather which leant itself to some strolls around the park which is so huge you can’t even comprehend its size until you visit it! We visited the Alice in wonderland memorial (I Obvs had a photo with the Mad Hatter) and made a trip to the zoo.
Grand central station
Such an amazing building its super pretty, huge and has so many food places including two nice restaurants and bars! The Michael Jordan bar does the most amazing Mac and cheese and cherry amaretto cocktail that all Mac and cheeses have been ruined for me and I crave this cocktail whenever I go for a drink but I’m yet to find anything close!
Ice skating at Rockefeller
It was a toss up between Central Park and the Rock but it was more convenient at the time so we chose the rock. We decided to ball out and go VIP so we had unlimited hot chocolate and cookies and a private room to chill in in between! We also saw the Microsoft launch concert with Pitbull as we were leaving as it was being held right outside the Rock!
Statue of Liberty
Has to be done! We got the free ferry to Staten Island which drives you right past and you get an amazing view and luckily the weather was kind so blue skies were the back drop to the photos!
We went to see Aladdin at the New Amsterdam theatre just off Times Square and it was so good! They spared no expense in putting on a spectacular production and it was so funny and all the actors / singers were brilliant.
We didn’t go into the museum but visited the Freedom Tower and the fountains in place of the twin towers. It has all the names of all that tragically does during the attack and the foundation is so huge and beautiful.

You can’t imagine what a sight it is until you get there and I never tired of seeing it the whole time I was there. When you’re inside a shop at night time looking out its like its still daylight because all the lights are so bright!
This is an old abandoned railway that has been turned into a park! It’s like a huge bridge that has greenery and trees and plants along each side and a walkway down the middle and benches. The view is amazing and it’s such a pleasant walk!
So these are pretty much the main highlights of my trip. I did so much more but it’s way too much to include in one little post!
Has anyone else visited New York and done any of these things?
Thank you so much for reading!
