Following January’s disaster box Birchbox had a lot to answer for in their February box, especially as they promised sparkle inside the box called “Shine Bright Like a Diamond”.
First of all I must say I love the packaging it’s simple yet quite luxurious and promises lots of nice things inside.
Unfortunately once again this was not the case and I was disappointed with most the contents! I liked 2 out of 6 of the products.
Moreover they have absolutely nothing to do with the name – there is nothing that connotes shining bright like a diamond!
Here’s what I got –
Spectrum Collections Tapered Powder Brush
First up the full size Spectrum Brush. I was very pleased to receive this as I love decent makeup brushes and this one is so pretty! It is apparently a powder brush used to apply setting powder, bronzer or highlight precisely due to its thin end so I am looking forward to trying this out for bronzer or highlight but not setting powder as I like my power brushes nice and fat.
Ole Henriksen Trust Serum Collagen Booster
Next up is this vitamin C serum to smooth fine lines and plump the skin. This has been on my radar for a while now and I have heard good things so I am looking forward to trying this out! It’s quite runny which I didn’t expect but it does soak into the skin nicely and it’s got a gorgeous citrus scent.
L. Erickson Grab & Go Ponytail Holder
A bobble. This is a bobble. What a pretentious way of describing it! I buy my bobbles from Primark 10 for £1 thanks so not bothered. So boring! And it isn’t even a nice colour!
The Balm Cosmetics Frat Boy Blush/Shadow
I want to like this brand but I find the bronzer really hard to blend and this is the same I found it hard to apply so this is a no go for me!
Not sure I’d use this as an eye shadow it’s very baby pink! If I could blend it I would use this as a blush though it’s a gorgeous colour that could be fab for the spring pastels trend.
LOC One and Done Shadow Stick in Perfect Cents
This is the only product that I can see is to do with the theme as it’s sparkly, but it’s also gold which isn’t diamond coloured at all. I would have preferred champagne pop! But you know me, never happy with what I’ve got!! This will be ok but I’ve got loads like it so not really bothered. This is apparently Birchbox’s first in house brand and it promises crease free long lasting wear with no need for primer. We shall see.
Ayres Body Butter in Patagonia
Usually body butters bore the hell out of me and this is no exception as it also smells horrible! Although I have to admit I like the old fashioned packaging.
So this month’s BB was ok but 2 out of 6 is not enough to keep me. As I said before if it didn’t catch my eye enough this month I will be cancelling. So sorry BB, it’s bye bye for now!
