Rimmel Fresher Skin Foundation Review

Rimmel is a drugstore brand that is popular in the blogging community and is up there as one of the best. Certainly when it comes to foundations they have produced a few that I can say I would, and do, happily repurchase.

So when they announced the Fresher Skin Foundation which promises to be light weight whilst keeping oil at bay creating a shine free finish I was more than excited and had to get it in my hands (and on my face) asap.

Sadly this is not the case and as much as I dislike posting ranty reviews I feel it is my moral duty as a beauty blogger to share this review with you.

I want to start off by saying my skin type is combination – mostly oily with dry cheeks. Therefore this may work well with other skin types.

PACKAGING

The packaging of this is quite pretty with the blue lid and pink writing on the label. However the fact that it’s a pot without a pump seems quite unhygienic to me as you end up dipping your brush/sponge into the pot over and over again. So I used a fresh cotton bud every time I wanted to get more out which seems like a huge waste as I didn’t want to get blemish germs into it!.

TEXTURE

So lets start with how this feels. It has a moussey texture whilst still being quite watery. You can tell from the photo below the impression left in the pot that it looks like it has a moussey texture.

APPLICATION

I tried applying this in a variety of ways:

  1. with a foundation brush (which left it extremely streaky on my face) and blending it out with a beauty blender
  2. with a foundation brush and buffing it out with a buffer brush
  3. with just a beauty blender

1 and 3 worked best however the application still isn’t great. It applies streaky and uneven and no amount of dabbing or buffing can stop that. It slides off so easily and just doesn’t settle well on my skin.

COVERAGE

This is a light coverage buildable to medium at  best and you have to apply lots of it to get a medium finish.

RESULT

This foundation doesn’t really dry into a matte/semi matte finish despite it suggesting it is shine free. It doesn’t really dry into any finish that I can describe and it stays quite wet on the skin for long time!

By lunch time it had slid everywhere and my face was a greasy mess. It certainly does not create a shine free finish.

Applying the Rimmel Stay Matte powder didn’t help either as it doesn’t create a nice base for the powder to cling onto.

OVERALL

I gave this foundation a good few tries and I am very disappointed to say I did not like it at all, if you couldn’t already tell! So much so that I have just stopped using it all together. I had really high hopes for this as the concept sounds great.

I haven’t thrown it as I thought the pretty blue packaging might look nice as a background prop for photos!

Have you tried this foundation? What did you think? I’d love to hear your thoughts!

  1. I swatched this in boots the other day but didn’t buy it because it made my hand look super shiny (if not a little greasy), I’m really glad I didn’t get it after reading this! My skin type is exactly the same as yours so I think the same would just happen for me!! xo.
