Benefit bought out a range of gifts for Christmas and naturally I looked at these in the Boots sale afterwards. One particular set that grabbed my attention (and my money) was the Kissy Missy set. Not only was it down from £24.50 to £13 in Boots, it featured two products that weren’t widely available at the time.
This is the They’re Real Double The Lip Lipsticks which feature a lip liner and a lipstick in one. So you can imagine I was excited to try something that wasn’t properly out yet and at such a cheap price I couldn’t really go wrong!
It also included a mini Lollitint and a mini Benetint which I wasn’t too fussed about at the time but since using are a welcome inclusion and you will see why. And it all comes in a cute little keep sake tin!
The They’re Real Double The Lip Lipsticks are now available to buy on the Benefit website individually for £16.50, but more widely so in the Big Sexy Lip Kit where you get four mini versions for £24.50 from the likes of Boots, ASOS etc.
So the Double The Lips are a tear drop shape with a lip liner at the point so the bullet is two toned. The idea is you line the point of the tear drop with the line of your top lip where you would usually apply lip liner and turn it round the other way for the bottom lip and do the same.
Once applied, the two colours merge and there is no obvious lining of the lip, but the shape of the bullet allows a really precise and easy application.
The bullet immediately loses its sharp clean and flat edge on application and becomes a bit mushy and rounded but it still applies ok.
They are a moisturising lipstick so the pigmentation is sheer and dries to a semi-matte finish, but you get a good colour pay off considering.
The colours I have are Pink Thrills and Revved Up Red and I found the two to be quite similar when applied to the lips. Pink Thrills is very much a baby pink whereas Revved Up Red is more of a hot pink than red.
The set came with a little booklet explaining how to use them and it suggested using the Lollitint under Pink Thrills for a more intense colour and the Benetint under Revved Up Red.
I have never used Lollitint or Benetint before so I was intrigued to try them out. Lollitint is quite thick, applies a baby pink tint to the lips and doesn’t have a scent, whereas Benetint is very runny and smells very strongly of roses which I found quite overwhelming and as its runny it gets on your teeth and doesn’t taste very nice either!
I found that applying these under each lip colour did make a little difference at the time of trying and intensified the sheer colour slightly. But I noticed it more as I removed them because you could still see the stain of each tint under the lipstick so when the lipstick begins to fade the tints will remain and allow your lips to still have some colour until you get a chance to reapply.
Speaking of re-applying, Benefit claim these last 8 hours, however I found they only last 2-4 and need re-applying after that or after eating. They are comfortable to wear you hardly notice you have it on.
These are a great day time choice and the smaller miniature size means you can pop it into your handbag.
So overall, I wouldn’t bother re-purchasing these nor try any other colours as I think they are average. If they bought out a matte version I would definitely be tempted to try another.
For me they aren’t a game changer like their brow range or my coveted Hoola Bronzer!
Have you tried any of these yet or are you planning to? I’d love to know below!
